The city's square was crowded with blankets for families while their children ran about playing. A few vendors were always there to sell a variety of things -- candles for honoring ancestors during Harper's performance, flowers and other items meant to be used as offerings in the temple, and of course food. It was a good 20 minutes before Harper was due to start and the stage was black, though the area in front of it was well-lit and always clear for those who wanted to dance to Harper's music or perform before or after her performance.

Xanier laid in the grass closest to the stage and to its right, impatiently waiting for his fellow council member's performance. The young boy rest his chin in a hand while the other twisted in the air in front of him, manipulating a small falcon-shaped bird made of a small flame. He was always found at Harper's performances and events in hopes of hearing her play her instruments. Xanier was fascinated with the fact that someone else who was young (albeit not nearly as young as he) was extremely skilled with their talents.
And the girl always dressed so oddly.

From a distance he looked almost out of place. Strong and tall, and for once not wrapped in his priestly vestments and his hair not tied up. He looked .. Relaxed. Which in of itself was something of note. Drexten was known for his kindness and nobility, but he was always doing something or another and to see him sitting still was a rarity in of itself.
In honor of the festival he wore robes of neutral colors but still held the propriety and elegance of his rank. His face impassive as he watched the show draw to it's inevitable close. The festival goers oo'ed and awed in reaction to the song and dance well up into the finale at which they erupted into applause.
Drexten joined in with a impressed clap to his palm and noting the other priest take her leave, he chose this to the time to follow suit. He waved to all those who recognized him, follower or not, and with a kind smile he even gifted the children the pleasure of a smile and sweets he kept on him nearly all the time. His goddess encouraged him show love and kindness to all those living, and even annoying children deserved a smile.
It was at this time he noticed a young boy making flame wisps in the form of a bird. Raising a brow, he approached the boy from behind and folded his arms in disapproval.
"Playing with fire in a crowd is dangerous you know.. Never know who might bump into you. Still.. you are talented. Follower of the goddess Emira, I take it?" He said calmly.

The bird disappeared in a small eruption of flame as the boy rolled over and sat up, facing the man. "High Priest of Raewyn." The boy scowled at being unrecognized. Granted he wasn't normally required to attend council meetings yet due to his young age, but he still knew the names of all the other council members. "Drexten. High Priest of Le'Feiya, Goddess of the Air and Spirits. Often followed around by that red mirage.. Dante I believe her name is." His pronunciations were exact and formal, showing that in his studies for his duties as High Priest of Destruction, he took to learning very seriously -- both of the mortal and spiritual planes.
As he stood, the boy's stern amber eyes matched the tone of his voice now that Harper had left the stage.

Drexten gave the boy a look, with that hair how could anyone NOT recognize him? However, it was always amusing to see his reaction. Raewyn's followers were always so passionate.. And Xanier was the most passionate of the lot. It was no question why the boy was chosen.
He listened to Xanier's analysis with little concern. Though their importance was equal, Drexten always seemed to treat the younger priests like he did Dante. Mere children that he didn't seem too concerned about... No.. they held promise.. but youth was easily corrupted. The elders were the ones he kept an careful eye on.
"Consider me impressed, but this is a festival there's no need to be so serious all the time. Now most of all. Put down the pencil and have a little fun." He said this calmly, reaching into his robes to pull out a spicy candy to offer it to him.

He stared at the candy a bit, a little confused by it. Drexten had never given him personally any candy -- that's not to say he hadn't acquired it before. Stupid teachers catching me... he thought to himself as he removed the shiny jewel from the man's hand. Orange eyes examined it closely before unwrapping it and popping it in his mouth.
A few moments later the boy threw his arms around Drexten thanking him eagerly before running off to go play with the other children in the area as if suddenly remembering his true age.

The hug caught him off guard, but there was no resistance to the gesture as a calm hand pat the young priest on the head before Drexten watched him take his leave. A child was still a child.. regardless of political standing.
With a turn, Drexten was off and his eyes shut off to the world. He hoped the other priests were enjoying themselves as well, a silent prayer given to sooth the troubled souls of those not taking advantage of the festival was given under his breath and with a final smirk he was leaving the city to the forest.
